How is it that some answers
stare you right in the face
whilst others remain elusive?
There is simply no answer,
no resolution at all—
the questions just seem to hang
around me, eagerly
following my steps.
Every once in a while,
if I’m really paying attention,
I can feel the very edge
of an answer drifting past,
lightly brushing my shoulder
before darting back off into hiding again.
I’ve tried all sorts—
whispering encouraging words;
writing long pleading letters;
stomping and shouting through the trees;
waiting quietly;
chocolates;
sweets;
more sweets;
flowers;
even inviting one on a full spa day             with afternoon tea!
But still, nothing.
I guess I’m learning that some answers
just cannot be coaxed out into the open
(even with the promise of cake)
and some questions will always
want to stay close.
And that is ok.
